Our Mission:

Air Quality.

We focus on improving people’s health and wellbeing.

Our Impact

Poor air quality can affect or harm human health and the environment and that’s why clean air is considered to be a basic requirement of human health and well-being. From smog hanging over cities to smoke inside the home, air pollution poses a major threat to health and climate.

The major outdoor pollution sources include vehicles, power generation, building heating systems, agriculture/waste incineration and industry. In addition, more than 3 billion people worldwide rely on polluting technologies and fuels (including biomass, coal and kerosene) for household cooking, heating and lighting, releasing smoke into the home and leaching pollutants outdoors.

Million Deaths Every Year

WHO estimates that around 7 million people die every year from exposure to fine particles in polluted air that penetrate deep into the lungs and cardiovascular system, causing diseases including stroke, heart disease, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and respiratory infections, including pneumonia.

out of 10 people worldwide breathe polluted air.

More than 90% of air pollution-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, mainly in Asia and Africa, followed by low- and middle-income countries of the Eastern Mediterranean region, Europe and the Americas.

WHO recognizes that air pollution is a critical risk factor for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), causing an estimated one-quarter (24%) of all adult deaths from heart disease, 25% from stroke, 43% from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and 29% from lung cancer.

Indoor air more polluted than outdoor air

Indoor air pollution, the degradation of indoor air quality by harmful chemicals and other materials, can be up to 10 times worse than outdoor air pollution. This is because contained areas enable potential pollutants to build up more than open spaces do.

Our Programs

Air Quality Alliance is an international non-profit organization, based in Switzerland, which promotes research, definition of policies and the development of technologies to improve indoor and outdoor air quality.

October 2017

“We aim to create a platform that allows institutions, companies and research institutes to cooperate. In this way we can provide new solutions and promote technologies to improve air quality.”

Get Involved

The society, people, businesses, manufacturing facilities, and government authorities need to work as a team to realize positive outcomes of having a healthier and more sustainable environment.

To improve air quality, we are active in these fields:

Researchers and businesses have developed innovative solutions to reduce harmful emissions and improve air quality for everyone.

Architects have developed eco-friendly buildings that take into account residents’ health and wellbeing.

Engineers have found solutions to improve mobility in future smart cities.

We want to support and raise awareness on these revolutionary solutions.

We grant the “Air Quality Mark” to technologies, products and projects improving air quality both indoor and outdoor.

We focus on these fields:

  • Automotive

  • Architecture

  • Appliances

We implement policies and programs that support the development of innovation in the fields of Air Quality.
